Drew Lawson is a high school kid raised in a tough neighborhood in the city of New York . He is just one of the kids who are raised there but wants to get out of there and make something out of his life, and he knows what his ticket out is. His ticket out is basketball, and there is no question about it. He is a great player, and many people know it. However, there have been many great ball players to come out of his neighborhood or his area that haven’t done anything in basketball for themselves. Some of them haven’t done anything more than play good at the parks, in high school, or try to make something happen, but don’t have what it takes. Drew sees them around the neighborhood working at different jobs or being up to no good. Drew is determined not to be like them. He knows how good he is, and this is his senior year. He has been playing great all his years of high school ball. This is his last chance to prove how good he is to himself, all the people watching, and especially college scouts. There are some already looking at him, but he is hoping to get more and finalize his chance of playing college ball for a big college. This will lead him one step closer to reaching his big dream of playing in the NBA. A state championship will also help, and he has his eyes on that, too. He is ready to work and take the necessary steps to succeed. Now it is time to prove to everyone, and himself, that he has what it takes and will make his dreams a reality. Does he have what it takes to succeed, or will he end up just like all the other players that couldn’t realize their dreams
I liked the book because it is so much like me. I can connect to it. I am a good football player, and I want to become one of the best to ever play the game. I know there are a lot of odds stacked against me, but I’m determined not to let that stop me. I will reach my goal with hard work and determination just like Drew. I didn’t like how it wasn’t as detailed or as in depth as it could have been. A lot more could have gone into the story that would have made it better. That would have helped the story tremendously. My favorite character is Drew because I can put myself in his shoes. My least favorite character is Coach House. It was a good young adult sports book. I would personally like to see a sequel to this book.?
